Department of chemistry offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes with practically focused multidimensional quality learning experience in excellent techno-savvy academic environment. In our pursuit of excellence, we persistently seek and adopt innovative methods to improve the quality of education. The benchmarks we set for ourselves in the field of teaching and research propel us in our journey towards excellence. The faculty of the department comprises qualified and goal-oriented members whose research expertise includes frontier areas in chemistry. To cater the needs of students and research scholars, the laboratories are well equipped with advanced instruments and technique.
To expose the students in the frontier areas in chemistry and to enhance employability skill of them, department is always ahead in performing the various academic activities. The important educational activities and achievements of faculty of the department during the session 2013-14 are highlighted below.
Prof. Dr. Pradip P. Deohate has published 7 research papers in national and international journals of repute viz. Indian Journal of Chemistry (CSIR), Indian Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry, Journal of Indian Chemical Society, American Journal of Pharmtech Research, Journal of Der Pharma Chemica and Journal of Chemical Science Transactions. He has attended 2 conferences, presented 4 research papers and guided 4 students for research project. Under his guidance 3 students are working for Ph.D. degree. He is working as the Treasurer of Amravati University Chemistry Teachers’ Association.
Prof. Dr. Poonam T. Agrawal has published 1 research paper in international journal of repute viz. International Journal of Scientific and Engineering Research. She has recognized as the supervisor for Ph.D. by Gondwana University, Gadchiroli. She has attended 1 conference, presented 1 research paper and guided 3 students for research project. She is working as the chairman of IQAC.
Prof. Pravin R. Kawle has published 3 research papers in national and international journals of repute viz. Indian Journal of Chemistry (CSIR), Indian Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry and Journal of Der Pharma Chemica. He has attended 2 conferences, presented 4 research papers and guided 3 students for research project.
Dr. Ashish G. Sarap has published 1 research paper in international journal of repute viz. Journal of Indian Chemical Society. He has guided 3 students for research project.
C.H.B.-Teachers of department Dr. Mrs. Kavita M. Heda, Ms. Vaishali R. Patil, Ms. Varsha S. Zade and Ms. Kalpana A. Palaspagar have published more than 5 research papers in national and international journals, attended various conferences and presented number of research papers.
Research students Mr. Shrikrushna S. Ubarhande has awarded with Ph.D. degree by S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati, Prof. Pravin R. Kawle, Ms. Smita K. Gawande, Mr. Ankit N. Mishra, Ms. Ketki D. Bansod and Ms. Kalpana A. Palaspagar are working for Ph.D. degree in research laboratory of department of chemistry. They have published more than 5 research papers in national and international journals, attended various conferences and presented number of research papers.
Research student Ms. Kalpana A. Palaspagar has selected for the Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for SC/ST candidates, having fellowship of Rs. 16,000/- per month for initial two years (JRF) and Rs. 18,000/- per month for next three years (SRF).
Aptitude test in chemistry was conducted for B.Sc.-III year students on12th January 2014 to create interest in chemistry, assess the conceptual understanding and to upgrade the subject knowledge. Test was co-ordinated by Dr. Pradip P. Deohate. Overall 25 students were participated in this test. Educational study tour to Adarsh Goseva Evam Anusandhan Prakalp, Mhaispur was arranged for the B.Sc.-II students under the supervision of Prof. P. R. Kawle and Dr. A. G. Sarap on 12th March 2014. Seminars and group discussions of B.Sc.-II & III students were conducted in the months of October-2013 and March-2014 under the supervision of Dr. Pradip P. Deohate and Prof. Pravin R. Kawle. Department of chemistry is engaged in non-remunerative type of consultancy services like analysis of drinking water, irrigation water, soil testing, determination of physico-chemical parameters and different types of estimations of samples of projects of school and college students.

Ms. Roshani S. Mulani (M.Sc.-I) has achieved 1 gold and 3 silver medals in B.Sc. examination of S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati (S-2013). Gold medal for 1st merit in chemistry, 1 silver medal for 2nd merit amongst all students and 2 silver medals for 1st merit amongst girl students.
Ms. Vandana S. Deshmukh (M.Sc.) has achieved 8th position in merit list of M.Sc.-Chemistry examination of S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati (S-2013).
Mr. Tushar S. Ghope (B.Sc.) has achieved 4th position in merit list of B.Sc. examination of S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati (S-2013).
Ms. Ritika S. Bhalerao (B.Sc.-II) has participated and awarded with the 2nd Prize in intercollegiate seminar competition on ‘Carbohydrates’, organized by Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati on 1st March 2014.
Ms. Insiyah D. Vora, Ms. Gauri P. Budhe (B.Sc.-I) have participated in university level intercollegiate chemistry-quiz competition and Ms. Ankita K. Fursule (B.Sc.-II), Ms. Sayali A. Nale, Ms. Manju N. Pariyani (B.Sc.-III) have participated in university level intercollegiate seminar competition organized by Amravati University Chemistry Teachers’ Association (AUCTA).
Ms. Anuja A. Giri (B.Sc.-I), Ms. Farheen B. Maniyar (B.Sc.-II) and Ms. Ankita R. Kabra, Ms. Avinash G. Khanderao (B.Sc.-III) have secured 1st positions amongst the college students in the subject chemistry with 141, 140 and 148 marks out of 150 in B.Sc.-I (Sem-I), B.Sc.-II (Sem-III) and B.Sc.-III (Sem-V) examinations of S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati respectively.
Ms. Roshani S. Mulani (M.Sc.-I) and Ms. Chanchal M. Khakkar (M.Sc.-II) have secured 1st positions amongst the college students with 79.50 and 69.66% of marks in M.Sc.-I (Sem-I) and M.Sc.-II (Sem-III) examinations of S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati respectively.
