Annual Report (2014-15)
Department of chemistry is committed to provide knowledge, skill and seeks to mould students into multifaceted persons capable of facing the challenges in rapidly changing world. Department of chemistry offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes with practically focused multidimensional quality learning experience in excellent techno-savvy academic environment.
To inculcate effective learning abilities and research skills, to extend the intellectual depth, to make students creative, innovative and self-reliant, department is always ahead in performing the various academic activities. The faculty of the department comprises qualified and goal-oriented members whose research expertise includes frontier areas in chemistry. To cater the needs of students and research scholars, the laboratories are well equipped with advanced instruments and technique.
The important academic activities and the programmes organized by the department of chemistry during the session 2014-15 are as mentioned below.
• Inauguration of newly constructed chemistry laboratories – On 2nd October 2014, the newly constructed chemistry laboratories were inaugurated at the hands of chief guest Hon’ble Dr. Mohan K. Khedkar, Vice-Chancellor, S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati. Dr. R. B. Heda, President, The B.G.E. Society, Akola was the chairman and Shri Satyanarayanji Goenka, Shri Abhaykumarji Chaware were the guest of honour. Adv. Kailash B. Lohiya, Sr. Vice President, Dr. Ravindra C. Jain, Jr. Vice President, Adv. Motisingh G. Mohta, Honorary Secretary, Shri Sharad A. Chaware, Jt. Secretary, all the executive members of B.G.E. Society, Akola and Principal Dr. V. D. Nanoty were present on this occasion.
• Workshop on spectroscopic and stereospecific perspectives of chemistry (SSPC) – Workshop on spectroscopic and stereospecific perspectives of chemistry was organized in collaboration with IQAC on 2nd October 2014. It was inaugurated by the chief guest Hon’ble Dr. Mohan K. Khedkar, Vice-Chancellor, S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati. Hon’ble Dr. R. B. Heda, President, The B.G.E. Society, Akola was the chairman and Hon’ble Adv. Motisingh G. Mohta, Honorary Secretary, The B.G.E. Society, Akola and Hon’ble Dr. V. S. Jamode, Ex-Pro-Vice-Chancellor, S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati were the guest of honour. During the workshop invited talks were delivered by Dr. V. S. Jamode, Ex-Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Ex-Head, Department of Chemistry, S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati on “Characterization of compounds using NMR spectroscopic technique” and Dr. H. S. Chandak, G. S. College, Khamgaon on “Chemistry in three dimensions”. Total 62 teachers and 178 students from various colleges affiliated to Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati were participated in this workshop.
• University level intercollegiate seminar competition for B.Sc.-III (semester-VI) chemistry students – The university level intercollegiate seminar competition for B.Sc.-III (semester-VI) chemistry students on the topic “Photochemistry” was organized in collaboration with AUCTA on 13th March 2015. It was inaugurated by the chief guest of inaugural function Hon. Dr. S. G. Bhadange, Principal, Shri Shivaji Arts, Commerce and Science College, Akola and President of AUCTA. Hon. Dr. R. B. Heda, President, The B.G.E. Society, Akola was the chairperson and Hon. Shri Anilkumar Tapadiya, Executive Member, The B.G.E. Society, Akola, Dr. V. D. Nanoty, Principal, Shri R.L.T. College of Science College, Akola were present as the guest of honour. Total 21 students from various colleges affiliated to Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati were participated in this seminar competition. Mr. Akash R. Bhatkar, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati, Mr. Rahul B. Dahiwadkar, G. S. College, Khamgaon and Mr. Sagar S. Rewade, Adarsh Mahavidyalaya, Dhamangaon (Rly) were awarded with 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize of Rs. 1000/-, 700/- and 500/- respectively for their best performance. Hon. Prof. Dr. S. P. Deshmukh, Vice-Principal and Head, Department of Chemistry, Shri Shivaji College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Akola was the chief guest and Hon. Adv. M. G. Mohta, Honorary Secretary, The B.G.E. Society, Akola was the chairperson of valedictory function.
• Aptitude test in chemistry – To create interest in chemistry, assess the conceptual understanding and to upgrade the subject knowledge, aptitude test in chemistry was conducted for B.Sc.-III year students on 22nd February 2015. Test was co-ordinated by Dr. Pradip P. Deohate. Total 53 students were participated in this test.
• Seminars and group discussions – The seminars and group discussions of B.Sc.-II & III students were conducted in the months of September, October-2014 and February, March-2015 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Pradip P. Deohate, Prof. Pravin R. Kawle and Prof. Dr. Kavita M. Heda.
• Consultancy services – Consultancy services like analysis of drinking water, irrigation water, soil testing, determination of physico-chemical parameters and different types of estimations of samples of projects of school and college students of non-remunerative type are engaged.
• Guest lectures – The guest lectures of following eminent personalities in the subject chemistry were arranged in association with Shri Shivaji Arts, Commerce and Science College, Akola.

The important academic activities and achievements of the faculty members of department of chemistry during the session 2014-15 are as highlighted below.
• Prof. Dr. Pradip P. Deohate has published 4 research papers in national and international journals of repute viz. Journal of Indian Chemical Society and International Journal of Chemical & Physical Sciences. He has participated in 2 conferences, 4 workshops, 1 seminar and presented 4 research papers. He has guided 3 students for research project. Under his guidance 1 student has submitted the Ph.D. thesis and 2 students are working for Ph.D. degree. He has worked as the member of SEC and LEC of S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati. He is working as the Treasurer of Amravati University Chemistry Teachers’ Association.
• Prof. Dr. Poonam T. Agrawal has published 2 research papers in international journals of repute viz. International Journal of Chemical & Physical Sciences and International Journal of Chemical Sciences. She has participated in 3 conferences, 7 workshops, 1 seminar and presented 3 research papers. Her 1 minor research project is ongoing. She is working as the chairman of IQAC.
• Prof. Pravin R. Kawle has published 1 research paper in international journal of repute viz. International Journal of Chemical & Physical Sciences. He has participated in 2 conferences, 5 workshops, 1 seminar and presented 2 research papers. He has guided 5 students for research project. He has submitted his Ph.D. thesis to S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati. His 1 minor research project is ongoing.
• Prof. Dr. Kavita M. Heda has published 1 research paper in international journal of repute viz. International Journal of Chemical & Physical Sciences. She has participated in 3 conferences, 4 workshops, 1 seminar and presented 3 research papers. She has guided 5 students for research project.
• Prof. Dr. Ashish G. Sarap has participated in 2 conferences, 7 workshops and presented 2 research papers. He has guided 4 students for research project. 1 Major research project of Rs. 25 lakh has sanctioned to him as co-investigator by B.R.N.S., Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai.
• C.H.B.-Teachers of department Ms. Minakshi S. Poharkar has cleared GATE, NET, SET examinations and Ms. Aarti D. Nandapure has cleared NET examination.
• Research students Prof. Pravin R. Kawle and Ms. Smita K. Gawande have submitted their Ph.D. thesis to S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati, Mr. Ankit N. Mishra, Ms. Ketki D. Bansod and Ms. Kalpana A. Palaspagar are working for Ph.D. degree in research laboratory of department of chemistry. They have published more than 5 research papers in national and international journals, attended various conferences and presented number of research papers.
At our department students are at the centre of all endeavors and is dedicates itself to the cause of advance level of education and propagation of scientific temper among the students. During the session 2014-15, additions to the students’ achievements of department of chemistry are as follows.
• Ms. Ankita R. Kabra (M.Sc.-I) has achieved 4th position in merit list of B.Sc. examination of S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati (S-2014).
• Ms. Bhuvaneshwari V. Wankhade has achieved 9th position in merit list of B.Sc. examination of S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati (S-2014).
• Ms. Roshani S. Mulani (M.Sc.-II) has participated in district and university level research festival “Avishkar” and achieved the colour coat of S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati. She has participated in state level research festival “Avishkar” at Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur.
• Ms. Manju N. Pariyani (M.Sc.-I) has participated in district and university level research festival “Avishkar” and achieved the colour coat of S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati. She has participated in state level research festival “Avishkar” at Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur. She has participated and awarded with the 3rd prize in university level intercollegiate seminar competition on “Molecular Rearrangement” organized by Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati in collaboration with AUCTA on 10th March 2015.
• Ms. Soniya P. Nagre (B.Sc.-III) has participated in district and university level research festival “Avishkar” and achieved the colour coat of S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati. She has participated in state level research festival “Avishkar” at Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur.
• Mr. Dnyaneshwar S. Thombare (B.Sc.-III) has participated and awarded with the 3rd prize in university level intercollegiate seminar competition on “Electrochemistry & Nuclear Chemistry”, organized by Banmeru Science College, Lonar on 28th February 2015.
• Ms. Sanchi P. Gajghate (B.Sc.-II) has participated and awarded with the 2nd prize in university level intercollegiate seminar competition on “Crystalline State”, organized by Mungasaji Maharaj Mahavidyalaya, Darwha on 7th February 2015.
• Ms. Priyanka S. Rajguru, Mr. Milind V. Tiwari (B.Sc.-I) have participated in university level intercollegiate chemistry-quiz competition and Ms. Sanchi P. Gajghate (B.Sc.-II), Mr. Dnyaneshwar S. Thombare (B.Sc.-III) have participated in university level intercollegiate seminar competition organized by AUCTA. Ms. Varsha D. Yennewar (B.Sc.-II) has participated in state level seminar competition organized by J.B. Science College, Wardha.
• Ms. Shivani A. Deshmukh (B.Sc.-I), Ms. Anuja A. Giri (B.Sc.-II) and Ms. Farheen B. Maniyar (B.Sc.-III) have secured 1st positions amongst the college students in the subject chemistry with 146, 142 and 136 marks out of 150 in B.Sc.-I (Sem-I), B.Sc.-II (Sem-III) and B.Sc.-III (Sem-V) examinations of S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati respectively.
• Ms. Ankita R. Kabra (M.Sc.-I) and Ms. Roshani S. Mulani (M.Sc.-II) have secured 1st positions amongst the college students with 80.16 and 84.50% of marks in M.Sc.-I (Sem-I) and M.Sc.-II (Sem-III) examinations of S.G.B. Amravati University, Amravati respectively.
